1890 Mark Tobey is born in Centerville, Wisconsin, USA on December 11th. 1911 Tobey moves to New York as a fashion illustrator. 1913 He studies at the Art Institute, Chicago. 1917 Portraits by Mark Tobey, M. Knoedler & Co. Gallery, New York 1918 Tobey enters the Baha'i religious community. 1922 He teaches at the Cornish School of Allied Arts in Seattle. 1923/24 During this period he makes the most important encounter of his life following his contact with the Baha'i teachings.
