Addison Andover: Mark Tobey. A Retrospective.

The Addison is organizing a travelling retrospective of the work of Mark Tobey, featuring approximately seventy paintings from the 1930s to the 1970s. Mark Tobey (1890-1976): A Retrospective will represent the first comprehensive Tobey show organized by an american museum in more than 35 years and the first retrospective covering his entire career. Curated by independent scholar Debra Balken, the exhibition is scheduled to travel to several venues.

On 25 February 2010, famous art dealer, collector and museum founder Ernst Beyeler died in Basel /Switzerland at age 88.
In 1958 Beyeler had seen Tobey’s painting White journey (1956) on the World Expo in Brussels and aquired this painting for his own collection. This was the beginning of a narrow and friendly cooperation. Galerie Beyeler became Tobey’s most important gallery and
